Our training

All our volunteers undergo intensive training to prepare them for taking calls. This includes listening training and learning about:

  • Different types of sexual violence: rape, childhood sexual abuse, domestic abuse, ritual abuse, prostitution and trafficking

  • Common reactions to these different types (although everyone reacts differently), and how these can be dealt with

  • Rejecting the common myths around sexual violence

  • Various responses and coping mechanisms that some survivors struggle with: eating distress, self-injury, PTSD, depression, flashbacks and dissociation

  • Police and court procedures

  • Common reactions of survivors' families and friends, and how they, and professionals, can help her

  • Supporting women from black and minority ethnic communities and supporting lesbian, bisexual and trans women.

  • Other organisations which help with any of these issues

Explore or search this site to find out what kinds of sexual violence, and what kinds of effects, we have had training on. If there is anything missing which you think we should cover, or anything you'd like to check before you call, do email us.
