Who we are

A small group of local women set up Cambridge Rape Crisis Centre in 1982, in response to growing awareness of the prevalence of sexual violence against women and girls. For many years CRCC was entirely run by unpaid volunteers. In 2007, having faced chronic funding instability for many years, the centre closed for a short while, only to be restored again by a small group of determined women.

Today, we are a diverse group of women brought together by a desire to end sexual violence and support survivors. Some of us volunteer on the helpline, some of us volunteer on the management committee to help run the organisation and we have two paid workers. Our funding comes from the Ministry of Justice, Government Equalities Office, Cambridge University RAG, Cambridge City Council and donations from local organisations, colleges and individuals. We are very grateful for this support and without it we would not be able to continue our vital work. We are also autonomous members of Rape Crisis England and Wales and The Survivors’ Trust.

With a stable and thriving body of trustees, helpline volunteers and two workers, today CRCC is looking to expand its services and reach out to even more women and girls.
